Fail-Proof Clay Facial

Mother’s Day is this weekend, and ladies…let’s be honest, we don’t actually rest on this day. Motherhood never stops for us. Personally, I can’t shut off that mom switch. However, in order to survive this motherhood adventure(and just being a woman in general), we need to practice some self care! Let’s treat ourselves and do things that help us recharge. I don’t have time for an entire spa treatment though, but I LOVE treating myself to a DIY clay mask!

This is a totally fail-proof recipe! I swear. All the recipes I share will be.

Here’s what you’ll need :
– Bentonite Clay (I like the “Aztec Secret” brand)
– Apple Cider Vinegar
(or water, but the ACV is so much more beneficial and smoother to mix)
– Glass Jar with lid
– Essential Oils
– Wooden popsicle stick or old makeup brush

This mask has ingredients full of a crazy amount of benefits. It also isn’t painful and potentially harmful to your skin like those “black charcoal” masks floating around Facebook. Let’s start with all the goodness of Bentonite clay. My go-to is Aztec Secret Indian Healing ClayClay has been used for healing, beauty, and preventing disease for over 4000 years. I don’t know about you, but I need ALL the healing and ALL the prevention. I also need ALL the detoxing, which is my favorite benefit from the clay. There are a few different ways to use it (Google it later!), but when made into a paste, and applied to the skin, it’s able to bind to the toxins living in our pesky pores. My house is pretty much toxin free (yay essential oils!), but there’s no controlling the stuff outside of our homes.

–  Grab a few TBSB of that clay goodness, and put it in a glass container.

Next up! We have Apple Cider Vinegar. Another natural product with tons of benefits. You’ll be amazed if you Google about it. Using apple cider vinegar with clay dates back to the 16th century. Skin care wise, it contains alpha hydroxy acids that remove dead skin. It also helps balance your pH levels, and control acne. Yes, I’ll be 30 this year and I still get acne every month. This stuff though, magic. A tad stinky, but magic.

– Add a couple TBSP of the Apple Cider Vinegar to the clay and mix up to your desired consistency.

A smooth paste is what I go for. Do not mix with a metal spoon, because metal can eliminate some of the benefits of the clay. Try a wooden popsicle stick.20170509-DSC_0035Last we have Young Living essential oils. The plant-filled bottles of amazingness that we love so very much!

Lavender and Frankincense because: anti-aging; say whaaaa?! Blemishes fading!? Give it all to me, and keep me 29 for life. Lemon can help with shrinking those pores, Tea Tree for the acne, and Peppermint because I really like that cool feeling it brings to the mask. Not to mention, Lavender and Frankincense help keep me grounded, and I’m trying to relax here. Please note, that Lemon can cause sensitivity to the sun. I personally have not experienced this, but there’s your warning! Now you can’t put a hit out for me if you decide to do a mask and then go to the tanner after. I usually apply this at night.

– Add 5 drops of each oil into your mixture, and stir it up again.

Congrats! You just made yourself a facial mask! You’ve made yourself quite a few facial masks actually. Affordably. Plus that clay, the Apple Cider Vinegar, and those oils all have endless uses. Snap a photo and Instagram that shiz.

When you’re ready to use this jar of beauty :
– Use a wooden popsicle stick, old makeup brush, or your hand, and spread it evenly across your face. Avoid those eyebrows though maybe, I’m not trying to be responsible for any missing eyebrows.
– Let it dry for 20-30 minutes, or whenever you’ve stopped being able to move your face.
-Rinse off with warm water.

Bentonite clay is sponge-like. When it’s wet it expands, when it’s dry it contracts. Therefore, if you feel your skin pulsating, that is normal. Let it do it’s thang, and get those impurities out! I’m warning you right now, you may experience some redness. That is 100% normal, and it is 100% temporary. I promise you. It will go away within an hour, and it happens because of everything in your pores being vacuumed out. Apply your favorite moisturizer, don’t look in the mirror for a bit, and enjoy some Netflix!

Repeat once a week.

Who is going to try it?

Bonus! You can use it as a weekly arm pit detox too.

( Side note : Frankincense, Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint are all in the Premium Starter Oil Kit with Young Living. Go ask your favorite oil lady for their website, or head here to learn more about it. Worth it. )
